Improvise, Adapt and Overcome as a Team

By Hallie Beasley, Senior Director

A lot has changed in the world since The Herald Group was founded 15 years ago. In 2005, George W. Bush was our President, Barack Obama was a new U.S. Senator, Facebook had only just been founded, and THG consisted of three partners, three laptops, and one printer. Having grown into the large full-service public affairs firm that it is today, however, one thing that hasn’t changed is the way THG partners its people with our clients.

On my first day with The Herald Group over eight years ago, I quickly learned that the firm was uniquely focused on empowering its people to win key debates and build long-term trust with clients. It is a place where entrepreneurship, risk, and accountability are rewarded with greater responsibility and career opportunities. I should know because on that first day, I started as a young associate at the front desk. Today, however, I am responsible for managing an array of major client accounts for leading companies and large industry trade associations.

Every campaign we execute for our clients is based on clear objectives, critical thinking, research, strategies, and tactics to support our clients’ priority issues or mitigate significant challenges. Yet, we also know everything can, and often does, change at the drop of a hat. Thus, one of THG’s key pillars of culture is a phrase borrowed from the U.S. Marine Corps.: “Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome as a Team.”

This pillar of our culture was embedded in the firm’s founding 15 years ago, but it couldn’t be more crucial in the world of public affairs today. Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, priorities, and threats shifted rapidly, and communication methods changed substantially. In response, we quickly huddled (virtually) with our clients to grasp the new landscape, improvise, adapt, and overcome with them as teams. We value our strong client relationships and have seen the power that connectivity and trust can generate. And at the height of a global health pandemic, those relationships are more important than ever. COVID-19 has forced us to reimagine how we work and how we advocate on our clients’ behalf to achieve key legislative and regulatory wins.

THG is so appreciative of the relationships we’ve built with our current clients, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen those partnerships. If you are looking for a long-term partner to help achieve your legislative, regulatory, litigation, or M&A goals in normal times or crisis environments, THG is here to help.
