E&C Deputy Press Secretary Powaleny Joins The Herald Group
WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 21, 2013 – The Herald Group, LLC, a national bipartisan public affairs and issues management firm, today announced that House Energy and Commerce Committee Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Powaleny is joining the firm as Director. In this role, Powaleny will provide strategic communications counsel to several of The Herald Group’s clients while also serving as the firm’s media relations manager to oversee significant client media relations campaigns as well as provide ongoing training and mentoring to the staff.
“We’ve been able to build our team by finding sharp and motivated people who understand how communications and public affairs impact policy debates. Andrew is one of those people,” said Matt Well, managing partner of The Herald Group. “His experience on health care and energy issues on the committee, and working with key reporters on those policy areas, will be invaluable to the clients he will support. His professionalism, attention to detail and strategic thinking will be assets for our clients, and we are excited to have him on board.”
Powaleny joins The Herald Group from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he served as Deputy Press Secretary. In this role, he was deeply involved in the committee’s communications around the recent health care debates, including the Affordable Care Act, as well as energy and environmental issues. Additionally, he was responsible for the committee’s blog, and built a robust national media booking operation for Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and the committee’s 29 majority members.
Prior to the committee, Andrew worked at CRAFT| Media/Digital where he ran the firm’s direct mail program for clients, and previously worked for several Congressional campaigns of candidates from Connecticut and New York. Andrew graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University and holds a degree in public policy and government.
“In an ever-changing media environment, I’m excited to join a team of professionals who excel in providing exemplary engagement and successful strategies for advancing client goals,” said Powaleny. “The Herald Group’s bipartisan successes demonstrate its ability to effectively navigate complicated issues and I look forward to expanding on the firm’s reputation as Washington, D.C.’s premier public affairs shop.”
