Russell joined The Herald Group in June 2022. Prior to joining THG, Russell worked for a Hartford based lobbying firm as a Legislative Assistant, managing the firm’s bill tracking system and client communications. He also spent time helping Veterans navigate the VA claims process while serving as a Claims Advocate for a Rhode Island based Veterans’ law firm and worked briefly at the Quinnipiac University Poll as an Interviewer.
Russell graduated from Connecticut College in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Environmental Studies. While there, he gained experience as an intern for the Office of the Attorney General in Connecticut and was also a member of the Cross Country and Track teams. Outside of work, he continues to enjoy distance running.

With a love of writing, media and current events, Riley started his career as a digital producer for CBS affiliate, Live 5 News, in Charleston, SC. While there he covered COVID, the eventful summer of 2020, and many local developments in the Lowcountry. Following his role there, Riley started at ClickWorx, a digital marketing firm in New York City, where he specialized in Google search and display ads.

Vice President
Robert Brooks is a Vice President at The Herald Group. In this role, he has successfully led some of the most complex public affairs campaigns across a variety of industries. Marc Brumer
Partner
Marc Brumer is a seasoned strategic communications professional who brings over 15 years of experience working on campaigns and on Capitol Hill. As Partner at The Herald Group, Marc uses his political and communications experience to help clients develop and implement winning public affairs campaigns that achieve successful policy outcomes.
Before joining The Herald Group, Marc served as Communications Director for U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. In that role, he served as chief messaging strategist and on-the-record spokesman, managing relationships with members of the national media, beltway press and news outlets across the country. Marc also led the office’s strategic communications efforts to successfully pass bipartisan legislation providing permanent health care for the 9/11 first responders suffering from illnesses caused by the toxins at Ground Zero.
Prior to that Marc worked at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee where he advised members of congress and candidates running in the most competitive House districts in the country.
Marc also served as spokesman for former Congressman Dan Maffei who represented Upstate New York and he was an aide on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s campaign for Attorney General. Marc has also held positions in New York City government, at a Manhattan-based boutique political consulting firm and at a leading national non-profit organization that advocates for civil rights.

Sharon Copeland
Vice President
Sharon Copeland has worked in various digital roles since 2014 supporting and training political, grassroots, and corporate groups. As a Vice President at The Herald Group, Sharon helps clients communicate strategic messages with key audiences online. She loves working to understand the mission of a client, identify what tactics will work, and efficiently educate and activate people to reach the client’s goals.
Before joining The Herald Group, Sharon worked as a Digital Marketing Strategist for Americans for Prosperity. She provided grassroots field teams across the country with holistic digital campaigns, utilizing social media, email, websites, and advertising campaigns to reach legislative, advocacy, event, and community objectives. She also worked for Generation Opportunity driving digital outreach and grassroots campaigns in Alaska, Colorado, Louisiana, and Virginia. In both of these roles, she enjoyed working with individuals from various communities and backgrounds, helping them make their voices heard, and advocate for freedom in their state capitols and in Washington.
Sharon was born and raised in Palmer, Alaska where she got to experience salmon fishing in the summer and skiing and snowboarding in the winter. She graduated from Grove City College with a major in Political Science and a minor in Economics. During her time in college, she had the opportunity to work as a research fellow under Dr. Paul Kengor during school and intern in DC and AK congressional offices during her summers.

Taylor Gross
Partner
Taylor Gross specializes in crisis communications, public policy battles and strategic media relations, having spent more than a decade assisting global corporations through mergers and acquisitions, providing strategic communications at the White House and helping clients navigate the unpredictable world of public policy battles.
Taylor specializes in taking complex issues and creating news coverage and story lines that explains the underlying motivations that drive public policy. Taylor also leverages his years as a White House spokesperson to train clients and teach them to deliver their strategic messages in a straightforward, effective way to break through the clutter.
Prior to co-founding The Herald Group, Taylor served as a White House spokesman in the Bush Administration. He previously served as a member of the President-elect’s Official Transition Office, working as Attorney General Designate John Ashcroft’s spokesman and as a member of the 2000 George W. Bush for President Campaign team where he served as the media coordinator for all southern states. Following the election, Taylor spent the next 34 days in Florida during the historic recount effort to provide counsel on national media strategy.
In addition, Taylor has served as Director of Radio Media for the 2000 Republican Convention in Philadelphia, PA, former U.S. Senator John Ashcroft’s (R-MO) Deputy Communications Director, on the Bob Dole for President Campaign in 1996 and for U.S. Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN). Administrative Operations Manager
Julianne Haggerty joined The Herald Group in June 2019. She currently works as the Administrative Operations Manager, where she coordinates various office tasks and functions to ensure THG operations run smoothly day to day. Colin Hensel

Colin serves as the Digital Director at The Herald Group where he helps lead strategic digital advertising campaigns, online listening, and email advocacy efforts for an array of clients.
Since joining The Herald Group in 2020, Colin has played a pivotal role in shaping data-driven campaigns that effectively target key stakeholders.
Prior to joining The Herald Group, Colin gained valuable experience on Capitol Hill as a member of his hometown Congressman's team. His political experience also includes serving as a Field Representative on Congressman Don Bacon’s successful 2018 re-election campaign, where he helped implement grassroots outreach and on-the-ground operations. Vivek Kakar
Digital Associate
Vivek works as a Digital Associate at The Herald Group, where he supports the development and execution of digital advertising campaigns and strategic communications initiatives for a range of public affairs clients. With a background in policy communications and brand strategy, he brings a sharp eye for narrative and a deep understanding of the policymaking landscape to each campaign.
Prior to joining The Herald Group, Vivek was the Director of Marketing & Strategy at Prolegis, a legislative intelligence platform used by congressional staff. In this role, he led a company-wide rebrand, managed cross-functional campaigns, and helped drive product adoption among Capitol Hill offices through tailored messaging and digital outreach.
His experience also includes work in political advertising at Middle Seat, where he developed aggressive fundraising and communications strategies while collaborating across email, texting, social, and digital teams to deliver high-impact campaigns for progressive candidates and advocacy organizations. Doug McGinn is a Partner and Co-Founder of The Herald Group. A veteran of the political and public affairs arenas, Doug brings a range of unique insights gained from senior campaign, legislative and private-sector executive positions. Most recently, Jared served as the Executive Director of Advocacy and Public Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC), a major division of the world’s largest business association. In this role, he was responsible for developing and implementing integrated advocacy strategies to advance the Chamber’s innovation-related priorities domestically and in key international markets.
To this end, Jared built and managed a global network of alliances, oversaw strategic communications, and developed innovative approaches to engage Capitol Hill and the Administration to move the needle on critical issues for the business community.
Jared also served in the George W. Bush administration as a politically-appointed legislative specialist to the Secretary of Commerce, where he focused on issues relating to trade, economic development, and immigration. He has also worked in government relations for clients in the financial services arena, and has experience working with political campaigns at the congressional and presidential levels.

Ashley Pratte Oates

Ashley Pratte Oates is a Senior Vice President at The Herald Group. She brings to The Herald Group extensive experience in crisis communications, policy, strategic campaigning, traditional media, and brand reputation management for clients.
Prior to The Herald Group she was the Director of Media Relations & Public Affairs at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Previously she served as the Director of Media Relations and consultant for Better For America during the 2016 presidential election. Prior to consulting for Better For America she was a Senior Political Reporter at LifeZette covering the 2016 presidential election and before that was the Vice President of Communications at FP1 Strategies where she managed a variety of nonprofit and corporate accounts.
She previously served as spokeswoman for Young America’s Foundation (YAF) the largest youth conservative organization in the country. Prior to working for YAF, Ashley served as executive director for Cornerstone Policy Research & Cornerstone Action, a prominent political action group in New Hampshire. Before her work at Cornerstone, Ashley served as project director and press assistant, and interim communications director to Congressman Frank Guinta (R-NH). She also worked on his congressional campaign in 2010.
Ashley has made frequent appearances on MSNBC, Fox News, Fox Business, and CBS News. She is also an opinion contributor for NBC Think. She has been published in The Washington Times, U.S. News & World Report, Washington Examiner, National Review and The Hill. She sits on the board of Republican Women for Progress and was named as one of Red Alert Politics’ 30 Under 30 in 2014 and named as one of Maverick PAC’s 30 Under 30 in 2017.

Steven Smith is a Vice President at The Herald Group. He is a Capitol Hill veteran with a decade of strategic communications and brand management experience, serving in six Congressional offices across all four U.S. time zones.
Most recently, he was a senior leadership staffer on the House Republican Conference serving as National Press Secretary. Under Conference Chair Liz Cheney, Steven was responsible for crafting and coordinating messaging strategy for the 200+ members of the House GOP Conference.

Tom Snedeker

As a Partner at The Herald Group, Tom is a member of the Executive Committee, bridging the traditional COO and CFO roles. He focuses on day to day oversight of the firm’s operations and client team composition. He manages staff utilization and development, with an eye on continued investments in people and capabilities focused on the smart growth of the firm.
Previously, Tom served as CFO at Bungalow LLC, better known as SCOUT, where he served on the Executive Team as a financial and business improvement leader. He managed all financial planning and analysis functions for the rapidly-growing company, while his focus included forecasting, cash flow management and compensation plans, as well as leading the budgeting process for 5 business units.
Prior to that, Tom served as Chief of Staff and Vice President of Finance for New Media Strategies, working directly with the CEO and fellow Management Team members in developing the company’s operational strategy and priorities to drive aggressive sales and EBITDA growth. He led the personnel planning and workforce management functions while maintaining oversight of all financial aspects of the company. His tenure culminated with a sale of the firm to a publicly traded company.
Earlier in his career, Tom worked in the government affairs and regulatory office for an emerging telecom company, working closely with the management team to finance and drive rapid expansion of the company, while serving as a liaison to both Capitol Hill and the FCC.

Matt Well combines extensive expertise in communications and issue advocacy with a unique understanding of how government interacts with today’s capital markets. As a founding partner of The Herald Group, Matt remains focused on a host of financial services and legal reform issues for coalition, association and corporate clients. Matt also specializes in online and traditional paid media development and planning. The rise of the 24/7 cable news cycle and the new media revolution have shifted the business of shaping public policy, and Matt is an expert in combining both traditional and new media tools and tactics.
Prior to co-founding The Herald Group, Matt served as Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) during the most active period since the Commission’s establishment. In addition to serving as the principal spokesperson, Matt was responsible for developing the Commission’s internal and external communications programs and providing strategic counsel to the Chairman.
Matt previously served as the Director of Public Affairs and Field Operations for the American Tort Reform Association (ATRA), Director of Communications and Issue Advocacy for the Republican Leadership Council (RLC) and as an aide to U.S. Senator Bob Dole (R-KS) in both his Senate office then on his 1996 Presidential campaign where he served as the Regional Field Director for Midwest.
