Cooking up Something New at THG: Meet Grace Sedlazek

The Herald Group is thrilled to welcome Grace Sedlazek as the newest associate on our client services team. Grace brings valuable experience in public affairs, having worked alongside some of Washington’s most influential political strategists as an executive assistant. That role laid the foundation for her skills in advocacy efforts and legislative priorities.

Outside of the policy world, Grace can often be found in the kitchen cooking and baking. She loves experimenting with new recipes and sharing her creations with friends.

We sat down with Grace for a quick Q&A to get to know her better.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am originally from New Jersey, and I moved to D.C. after graduating from Villanova two years ago. Growing up, I loved American history and U.S. government classes. This is what inspired me to pursue a politically oriented career. I was also a competitive swimmer, with the 100 backstroke being my favorite event. I still love being in the pool (and the ocean).

What led you to a career in public affairs?

Something unique and intriguing about public affairs is that it intertwines politics with policy. Having always had an interest in both aspects, I knew this was something I wanted to pursue. I love the strategic and communicative elements of this work, and it’s rewarding to be a part of something where your efforts make a difference.

What’s one thing about public affairs that surprised you once you got into it?

One thing that surprised me about public affairs is how the process of connecting the dots truly varies day by day — no two days look the same. Each day brings new opportunities to tackle unique challenges, build relationships, and make an impact in unexpected ways.

What are you most excited to take on in your new role as associate? How do you hope to make an impact?

I’m excited to work as an associate because it allows me to wear many hats in such a diverse field of work. I think it’s a great chance to really take a deep dive into different portfolio areas that I haven’t previously had as much time to explore. I’m especially looking forward to collaborating with my peers across various levels of experience and expertise, fostering an environment that encourages me to learn and grow continuously. I’m confident that this will help me hone my skills as both a team player and a leader, and I hope to continue being someone my colleagues can always count on.

Outside of work, where would we find you? What are you passionate about?

You can find me in the kitchen cooking and baking with friends. Although I’m still mastering my chef skills, I think it’s fun to try to recreate different recipes. I also love hiking. I’ve been trying to visit Shenandoah Valley on weekends to explore some of its famous trails and spend time outdoors.

What’s a hobby or interest that has nothing to do with politics or public affairs — but you secretly think makes you better at your job?

Something that I’ve picked up in the past year or so is distance running. While it seems completely unrelated to work, running is the secret recipe that makes me even better at my job. Following different training plans has taught me a lot about time management – especially for those long runs – and staying committed to my goals. These two skills are critical for thriving in the fast-paced and sometimes chaotic world of politics. After a busy day in the office, I love to decompress by going on a run.

What’s your go-to brain break when the day gets hectic?

Making a fun coffee drink. It is an excellent source of caffeine to help keep the energy flowing, and mixing up the flavors makes it even more fun and refreshing. There is truly nothing that coffee cannot fix.

We are thrilled to have Grace on our team – both in and out of the office - and we know she is someone we can always count on to bring the best ideas to the table.
