Introducing Mike Bushnell: A Team Player with a Creative Edge
We’re excited to welcome Mike Bushnell as one of The Herald Group’s newest Directors. A proud Washington DC-area native, Mike brings both creativity and a steady hand under pressure to his new role. He’s passionate about making a meaningful impact—whether that’s helping clients advance their priorities or supporting teammates in their own growth. Outside of the office, you’re likely to find him on a golf course, a local trail, or catching the latest NBA highlights (likely why his “name that player” skills are unmatched)!
We recently caught up with Mike for a quick Q&A to find out what makes him tick:
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a proud Washington-area native, with a professional background that spans trade association work, non-profits, and now public affairs. That experience has instilled in me the importance of taking pride in my work and being able to perform under pressure, while remaining balanced and remembering what’s really important in life.
What led you to a career in public affairs?
Growing up, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I knew that I wanted to live here as an adult. I loved to write, and I was interested in politics and policy. Working in public affairs lets me flex my creative muscles and make a meaningful difference while working on the important issues of the day. It’s a real privilege and I don’t take it for granted.
What kinds of projects or client moments have you felt proud to be a part of?
In public affairs, clients count on us to help them make a meaningful impact, in whatever way a specific project defines that. But I’m most proud of the times that I’ve helped teammates – both clients and colleagues – learn, grow, and better themselves.
What are you most excited to take on in your new role as Director? How do you hope to make an impact?
One of the best things about working in public affairs is how many different industries and subject-matter areas you are exposed to in a short period of time. I am really excited to work with this really talented group of people on projects that cover a diverse range of issues and industries.
Outside of work, where would we find you? What are you passionate about?
Depending on the time of year, you can catch me on one of the many trails or golf courses in the area, or watching any sporting event on the planet. Outside of work, I’m passionate about being an active member of my community and spending time with my friends and family. I know it’s a blessing to live near my family and many of my friends I’ve grown up with, and I don’t take that for granted.
What’s a skill you have that would crush it in an office talent show?
If, for some reason, we ever play a “name that NBA player based on a picture of their face” contest, I will crush it. Not sure how likely that scenario is, though.
What’s your go-to brain break when the day gets hectic?
Once I’m done with Wordle for the day, my brain break is usually catching up on the latest NBA, NFL, or college football news. But that’s only after all my work is done – it’s always clients over Clippers. Or deliverables over Dolphins, take your pick.
Join us in welcoming Mike Bushnell to The Herald Group!
